Valley leaders meet with Rep. Cuellar— discuss migrant influx
Congressman Henry Cuellar held a press conference Thursday, following his meeting with U.S. Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas.
During the press conference, Cuellar and Valley leaders discussed the latest operational updates at the Southern border.
McAllen Mayor Javier Villalobos expressed urgency, pointing to the migrant Catholic Charities Respite Center reaching capacity, resulting in migrants quarantining at the emergency shelter for COVID-19 positive migrants in Anzalduas Park.
Hidalgo County Judge Richard F. Cortez echoed Villalobos's statement, saying the amount of COVID-19 positive migrants is causing a more significant problem for the county.
"There are 25 people that are immigrants in our hospitals," Cortez said. "14 of them have COVID-19, and 11 have other conditions. Stop the flow of asylum-seeking migrants because that is where the highest volume is coming."
