Valley Physician in Puerto Rico Shares Deadly Earthquake Experience
WESLACO – The aftermath of a deadly earthquake in Puerto Rico being felt by some Rio Grande Valley residents.
The earthquake is reported to have started on the southern part of the island, but the shocks were widespread. As of now, a 77-year-old man died and several others have been injured.
Betzaida Valentin, a Valley physician currently on vacation visiting Puerto Rico, was just a couple miles away from where the quake hit.
“There are houses completely collapsed. Houses, buildings, shopping centers that are completely collapsed. There is a church that was a historical building that is completely down to the grown just one of the walls,” Valentin described.
She added this event comes two years after the deadly Hurricane Maria, which reportedly left nearly 3,000 people dead.
