Valley to See Increase in Number of Mosquitoes
MISSION - As temperatures in the Rio Grande Valley rise, there is an increase in mosquitoes.
The city of Mission and Hidalgo County’s Health Department are capturing mosquitoes for testing on what kind live and breed in the area.
Mosquitoes in the Valley can carry diseases like Zika and Dengue.
Mission’s Health Director, Noel Barrera, says you can take steps to slow down breeding.
"One of the things that they need to do is make sure that if they have containers with water to dump them out because the mosquitoes can grow in a little bit of water," says Barrera.
Barrera adds mosquito season can last from March to September.
