Volunteers Work to Put a Dent in Childhood Hunger
WESLACO – More than 200 volunteers gathered Saturday to pack meals for Rio Grande Valley children.
According to Feeding America, nearly one out of every two children in the Valley live at or below the federal poverty level.
Volunteers packed more than 43,000 meals for children.
Dallas Johnston says the hard work is worth the reward, "We see where the food goes and when these people come by and pick this food up it's a gracious thank you, they really appreciate the help."
Packed meals go to food banks in the Valley where they are distributed to families in need.
