WESLACO – A man who held a clerk at knifepoint in Weslaco is still on the loose. Weslaco police released surveillance video of the crime and are asking for the public’s help to find the man.

The robbery happened Monday evening at the Thirst Aid Station store located on the 2000 block of West Business 83. Surveillance video shows the man enter the store and talk to the clerk before pulling out a knife. The man then places the knife to the woman’s throat and forces her to open the register.

Weslaco Police Department Public Information Officer Jose Rodriguez said it’s still unknown how much money was taken. He did, however, recommend shops better prepare for these types of situations.

“If possible, we recommend at least two employees, especially when they’re closing, so that they can have other people involved,” he said. “Lighting could also help small businesses, and a small additional surveillance camera might help. In this case, we were lucky enough that there were surveillance cameras at the store, and we were able to locate and see who this individual was.”

Police said the suspect was wearing a red Polo cap, red shirt and blue jeans. Anyone with information in the case can call Weslaco Crime Stoppers at 956-968-8477.
