RAYMONDVILLE – The Willacy County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s help in identifying a thief. They say he broke into a windmill Saturday near San Perlita.

Detective Andres Maldonado says the thief took the windmill’s copper wiring. He says the bigger concern with this type of crime is how dangerous it is.

“If you don't know what you're doing, you could easily electrocute yourself and hurt yourself pretty bad or end up killing yourself. If you snip the wrong thing and try and take the wrong thing out of there,” Maldonado explained.

Investigators are not sure how much copper wiring was taken. Only one windmill was hit.

They believe the thieves are still it to scrapyards.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Willacy County Sheriff’s Office at 956-689-5576.
