SAN BENITO – A San Benito man is facing a citation for illegal burning.

San Benito Fire Chief Raul Zuniga said the man was burning brush.

A red flag warning was in effect on Wednesday. Strong winds caused that burn to get out of control.

Eighteen acres of land wound up scorched.

It happened near Templo El Salvador on South Sam Houston Street.

Fire officials urge the public to heed red flag warnings.
