ALTON – A new ordinance allows Alton police officers to fine hosts of underage drinking parties.

The Alton City Commission passed the civil social host ordinance during their city council meeting on Tuesday.

A civil social host ordinance is a local law that holds adults liable for underage drinking that occurs on their property. 

Alton is the fifth city in Texas to pass a social host ordinance; neighboring Palmview was third.
