WESLACO – The Better Business Bureau is warning residents of thieves targeting online sales.

A local resident says he gave his personal information to someone he thought he was buying a travel trailer from.

He says he came across an advertisement for a trailer being sold at $2,000 when they’re usually priced at about $3,000.

He says the seller said she was a soldier wanting to sell the trailer fast because it brought back memories of her deceased husband.

According to the seller, the trailer was in an eBay warehouse and all payments would need to be made through the bidding site.

In an email, the seller instructed him to purchase eBay gift cards and send the card numbers to her.

He says he stopped the purchase and found out the trailer along with others on the website were fake.

President of the BBB Dolores Salinas says verification in buying and selling items online is key.

"Make sure you verify every single offer on every single social media on any products or services that are being offered," says Salinas.
