The water in the city of Roma is now safe to drink and use right out of the faucet, according to the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality.

A boil water notice in the city was lifted on Tuesday, nearly a month after it was issued. The boil water notice was made after the state found that the water in Roma has had high levels of turbidity — or cloudy water — since August 2023.

“Those meters weren't reading correctly,” Roma City Manager Alejandro Barrera said.

TCEQ spent a week doing evaluating Roma’s water plant.

Since the state's environmental team left, the city has been working through a checklist of other things to improve the water quality.
