CBP Foils 2 Drug Smuggling Attempts at Hidalgo International Bridge

HIDALGO – U.S. Customs and Border Protection said more than 40 pounds of alleged meth and cocaine were seized over the weekend.

On Saturday, Dec. 23, a 47-year-old Dallas woman crossing the Hidalgo International Bridge as a pedestrian was referred to further inspection.

CBP officers discovered four packages of alleged meth concealed in her body.

Later that day, CBP officers referred a 35-year-old male driver to secondary inspection. They later found 16 packages of alleged cocaine stashed inside the white 2008 Dodge Journey.

The drugs have an estimated street value of more than $420,000.

Both individuals were placed in Homeland Security Investigation’s custody.
