CBP Officers Discover Pounds of Drugs Hidden Within Key Lime Shipment

PHARR – U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the Pharr International Bridge discovered more than 3,000 pounds of marijuana within a shipment of key limes.

The seizure occurred on Jan. 30 when officers at the cargo facility encountered a 2001 Freightliner tractor trailer. After the conveyance was referred for a secondary inspection, CBP officers used a non-intrusive imagining system along with a K-9 to locate the narcotics.

CBP officers extracted 34,764 packages containing 3,947 pounds of marijuana commingled within the shipment.

Officers seized the drugs, valued at an estimated $789,467. The case remains under investigation by Homeland Security Investigations special agents.
