City of Penitas Makes Changes after Two Firefighters Face Heat Exhaustion
PENITAS – The record heat is forcing changes in Penitas after two firefighters were hospitalized for heat exhaustion.
The city is now providing more help along with shaded rest spots.
Instead of two people working traffic control, between six and 10 will be working per shift.
KRGV’s Sierra Pizarro spoke with one of the firefighters who explains what he went through after falling victim to the heat.
“It just happened so quick. I went from Main to Tom Gill. I was out for 45 minutes. I went inside the unit to cool off.” says Penitas firefighter Rene Pena.
He explains he wasn’t in the unit for more than five minutes when he started feeling dizzy.
