MISSION – A Rio Grande Valley veteran who served his country honorably was laid to rest with full military honors.

Private First Class Daniel Baker served in the U.S. Marine Corps and passed away with no family or close friends to mourn him.

Still, he was laid to rest at the Rio Grande Valley State Veterans Cemetery accompanied by over 100 people who came together to celebrate the veteran’s life.

KRGV’s Cecilia Gutierrez spoke with a U.S. Army veteran, who was in attendance, about their participation in the Unaccompanied Veterans Program.

“No man should be buried with nobody around,” says U.S. Army veteran Rogelio Estrada. “We keep our brothers together and we always will be for them.”

A program representative says there have been 94 unaccompanied veteran burials throughout the state.
