The local demand for COVID-19 testing is similar to what’s being seen nationwide.

Staff at a testing site in McAllen said they expect to see 400 patients getting tested for COVID-19.

As the number of omicron cases spread across the country, local officials are acting as if it's already here.

There's still not a confirmed case of the omicron variant in the Valley, according to Texas DSHS Regional Medical Director Dr. Emilie Prot.

“Delta is most of the hospitalizations, omicron is probably most of the new cases," Hidalgo County Health Authority Dr. Ivan Melendez said.

A list of available testing sites can be found online.
