UPDATE (10 p.m.): Department of Public Safety Lt. Johnny Hernandez says the driver has been identified as 55-year-old Carlos Naranjo of Lyford. 

He lost control of a blue Ford Explorer and rolled into a field off of FM-1018. 

Authorities say he was not wearing a seat belt. 

No one else was in the vehicle.

NEAR SANTA MONICA – The Department of Public Safety is investigating a crash near Santa Monica.

It happened less than an hour ago.

One person is dead according to the official DPS Twitter page.

A CHANNEL 5 NEWS crew is heading to the scene.
