SAN CARLOS – Authorities responded to an incident in San Carlos, after a toddler reportedly fell out of a vehicle. DPS now says the child may not have fallen out of the SUV.

The incident happened Monday around lunchtime near 83rd Street and Mile 17 1/2.

DPS Lt. Johnny Hernandez said their preliminary investigation shows the mother may have struck the child, not that the child fell out.

The child remains in critical condition.

The investigation into the cause of the incident is ongoing.
