UPDATE (6/6): An assisted living center in Weslaco is now reviewing their emergency hurricane plan after 100 residents were evacuated due to a power outage.

A transformer blew out and caused an outage in the building Tuesday morning and afternoon. 

Officials tell CHANNEL 5 NEWS power was out for more than 14 hours. However, the Weslaco Fire Department wasn't called until nine hours after the electricity went out. 

The property manager of Alta Vista Towers says sometime next week, she will meet with the Weslaco Housing Authority and the fire department to talk about future plans.

WESLACO – Electricity has been restored after residents of an independent facility in Weslaco were evacuated due to an hours-long power outage.

Multiple agencies responded Tuesday afternoon to the Alta Vista Towers located at South Nebraska Avenue and West 6th Street and relocated people to a nearby church.

Weslaco Fire was called to help with the evacuation around 12:45.

We learned the power went out because a transformer blew while an electrical crew worked down the block.
