RIO GRANDE CITY - A Starr County grand jury formally indicted a man accused of altering government records.

Edwin Duran was arrested late-August and released on a $40,000 bond.

A grand jury issued the indictment Monday.

Duran is facing four counts of tampering with governmental records and four counts of tampering with or fabricating physical evidence.

The incident happened while he was employed by Rio Grande City attorney Calixtro Villarreal.

A search warrant was executed at the office following Duran's arrest.

Its alleged Duran made copies of court documents where he altered a judge's decision that originally denied a bond reduction request.
