HARLINGEN – Nothing says the holiday season better than homemade treats. Lara’s Bakery in Harlingen makes sure to deliver those goodies.

It’s not just the sweetest time of the year, but also the busiest for the bakery.

“Over here, there’s fruit empanadas, there’s apple, pineapple, cream cheese, everything is homemade and we make our own filings,” Terri Green, owner of Lara’s Bakery, said. “We make like a hundred dozen Christmas cookies a day during a two-week period and they just fly off the shelves.”

For years the family-owned bakery in Harlingen kneads through the holiday rush.

“You have people coming in to see their families and everyone wants to make sure they get their treats because they’ve been out of town, so they come in some say this is their first stop into town,” Green said.

Green showed CHANNEL 5 NEWS around her bakery where they start preparing their treats overnight.

“Over here we have pan de polvo, which is very popular those are the hearts,” she said.

During this time of year, Green said they offer dozens of special treats to fit the holiday season.

“Turnovers to rolls to pan dulce, cookies, gingerbread men, muffins, you know it just keeps coming and coming,” she said.

With the holidays as busy as they are, Green said they rise to the challenge.
