HARLINGEN – The Harlingen Police Department is working on setting up their new security measure.

Harlingen police chief, Michael Kester, says the department purchased four cameras to be placed in downtown Harlingen.

Kester says in 2018, about 100 calls were made to the department from the downtown area.

He says the new camera footage could become a key part to a potential investigation.

“At any time we will be able to go in, login to the system and actually view what’s going on,” says Kester.

He says the police department will additionally live-stream the footage on the city’s website for the public.
