WESLACO – Hidalgo County Emergency Medical Technicians are speaking out about the dangers they face on a daily basis.

Last month a deadly crash claimed the lives of 68-year-old Delia Cortines and Hidalgo Country EMT, 32-year-old Felipe Huerta Jr.

KRGV’s Sierra Pizarro rode with the victims’ EMT partners.

“It's always a risk, every time we come to work, to make it home,” says paramedic Jose Jaime.

When driving around an ambulance, the law says drivers must stop in the closest lane on the right.

If the speed limit is under 25, the driver must slow down to five miles per hour.
