HIDALGO - People riding into the U.S. from Mexico on bikes explain they’re being left stranded and forced to walk back.

They bike over the bridge and park them nearby and take busses to where they need to go; by the time they get back their bikes are gone.

CHANNEL 5 NEWS spoke to a man who tells us his bike has been taken twice by the city of Hidalgo.

"They said they were picking up the bikes they didn't tell us why just that they were picking them up," he says.

Nayeli Ramos says she rides her bike over the bridge every day for school.

She says her bikes have also been taken, forcing her to walk back after class.

"What I think is they’re going to resell it or what are they going to do with them," says Ramos.

CHANNEL 5 NEWS reached out to the city of Hidalgo.

A representative tells us bikes are picked up to keep the area around the bridge less cluttered and that bikes are not sold or given away.

The city adds bikes are being kept in city storage, to get them back people are asked to go to city hall where they will have to pay a recovery fee.
