WESLACO – Phony IRS calls targeting taxpayers and, recently, immigrants continue being reported across the country, including the Rio Grande Valley.

Potential victims are being told they owe money and could face arrest, deportation or suspension of driver’s or business’ licenses.

South Texas Better Business Bureau President Dolores Salinas said you can keep track of these calls in your area with the BBB’s Scam Tracker.

“With everything that’s going on with immigration law and it’s not set yet it’s very common for scammers to use those types of intimidating tactics to get people to pay. Also, try to give themselves more legitimacy,” she said.

You can find the Scam Tracker online by visiting the BBB’s website
