NEAR MISSION – The Brownsville Diocese, which oversees La Lomita Church, is waiting on a court decision to see if authorities will be granted access to the church grounds.

CHANNEL 5 NEWS previously reported the federal government was demanding “immediate possession” of the nearly 66 acres of land at La Lomita Church grounds as a possible border wall site.

KRGV’s John Paul Barajas spoke with Father Roy Snipes about the matter.

Father Roy claims the diocese isn’t giving up without a fight.

"The church is about hospitality not hostility so it’s about reaching out not about hiding behind a wall for fear that the people on the other side are dangerous to us,” says Father Roy.
