Pharr - Lacks proudly donated $7,800 to the American Cancer Society on Feb. from money raised at it's 20th Annual Golf and Fishing Fiasco. The ACS will dedicate the funds towards it's transportation services which help local cancer patients who need a ride to treatment.

The furniture retailer has shown the community once again that having fun and raising money for a charity is the perfect formula for giving back. "I'm happy this money will be used to support our local community affected by cancer....the American Cancer Society is a great charity and they have been a tremendous support to many people for a long time," said Susan Catchman, Upholstery Buyer at Lacks.

These funds will be used for the "Road to Recovery" program where a volunteer drivers provide transportation for patients to and from their cancer-related appointments.

Every year, Catchman oversees the two-day event that takes place in both Harlingen and South Padre Island. The fiasco entails and agenda of golfing, fishing, food and cash prizes. It's a time where business leaders, friends, and family unite to socialize and raise money for the Rio Grande Valley.

"It's very important for us to give to our community.....not only are they are customers but they're our friends and family as well. Our Lacks family has also been affected by this unfortunate disease and the American Cancer Society has been there for them every step of the way," said Catchman.

This is not the first-time Lacks has partnered with ASC to help fight cancer. The furniture retailer has partnered with the organization on numerous fund-raising events throughout the years and has raised over $100,000 in the past five years.
