FALFURRIAS – A local resident says he wants to know if Border Patrol agents will be reassigned to the field when the new checkpoint opens.

A new Border Patrol checkpoint is under construction south of Falfurrias.

Local land owner, Michael Vickers, says he watches out for illegal traffic around his property.

Vickers says he is concerned Border Patrol agents will need to find additional staff to man the new checkpoint.

“We don’t want to lose our brush crews that respond to our calls on ranches when we see traffic,” he says.

Border Patrol says staffing at the new checkpoint will be done in a way that will not affect border security.
