LYFORD – The Lyford Police Chief says local residents are being targeted by criminals who identify themselves as Magic Valley Electric Cooperative employees over the phone.

Residents are being threatened to be left in the heat if they don’t pay up hundreds of dollars for a supposedly unpaid light bill.

“Maybe there are some folks out there already that have given them their credit card number information, so that's our concern. We'd hate for especially the elderly to be taken advantage of in that situation,” says Police chief Andres Maldonado.

KRGV’s Daisy Martinez spoke with a resident who was targeted by these impostors.
