WESLACO – Asylum seekers now have to wait in Mexico while their cases are reviewed by U.S. immigration courts.

Asylum seekers will be transported to and from the border to make court hearings.

The Department of Homeland Security say the policy would "reduce the number of aliens taking advantage of U.S. law and discourage false asylum claims" and will no longer let asylum seekers "disappears into the U.S. before a court issues a final order."

This policy is only being enforced at San Diego’s San Ysidro border crossing.

The government plans to expand this to other crossings if the policy doesn’t face legal challenge.
