SANTA ROSA – Cracked cement surrounds the majority of Santa Rosa’s public pool.

Elias Hernandez says he first noticed the damage about four days ago.

"I was surprised to see that it was lifted. It caught my attention," he says.

Elias Hernandez visits the Santa Rosa public pool about twice a week; he takes his three kids there to cool off.

"It's the only fun thing we have in Santa Rosa practically, the swimming pool, but now we're not able to use it," says Hernandez.

CHANNEL 5 NEWS reached out to Santa Rosa city officials.

City administrator, Jared Hackema, confirms the damage was caused by the floods.

"In some cases when you have the water table filled with water it causes things underground like foundations like swimming pools like pipes to shift up and down and then they break. That's what happened with this swimming pool," says Hackema.

He says Cameron County staffs and owns the pool and the city of Santa Rosa works with them to operate it.

A Cameron County Parks and Recreation representative told us they are aware of the issue and are meeting with engineers to evaluate the damage.
