SpaceX Starhopper Prototype to be Tested Next Week

NEAR BROWNSVILLE – Next week, SpaceX will be making its first untethered test flight.

A special engine known as the Raptor engine is being set up inside the hopper.

SpaceX's Starhopper prototype vehicle is the one that's going to be tested at the Boca Chica Beach site. 

According to the company, it will reach a maximum height of no more than 20 meters.

SpaceX is conducting this test as part of several designed to push the limits of the hopper.
  
SpaceX also says they will conduct ground system checkouts and perform a short static fire test.

According to a tweet from CEO Elon Musk, they hope to carry this out Tuesday, but the date can be pushed back.

SpaceX is working with the city of Brownsville to establish a safety zone perimeter around the test site.

Signs are expected to be put up to let the community know when testing is will begin.

Cameron County will provide road and beach closure information updates online as well.
