WESLACO – An alleged top boss of the Gulf drug cartel was captured right across the border.

Jose Alfredo Cardenas was arrested in Matamoros.

The Mexican Navy calls him the “presumed leader of a criminal organization in the region.”

Cardenas is the nephew of former Gulf Cartel leaders Osiel and Antonio Cardenas. Osiel is in a U.S. prison.

Antonio was killed by Mexican security forces in 2010.
