TSC will host South Texas Male Student Leadership Summit

BROWNSVILLE, TX- Texas Southmost College will be hosting the TSC South Texas Male Student Leadership summit on Saturday, March 30 from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

The summit will address concerns such as, the decreasing number of males enrolling and completing college and the gender gap in the region.  The summit will be groundwork for new initiatives to increase enrollment, retention and graduations rates of Hispanic males in the RGV.

Keynote speakers at the summit will include Dr. Victor Saenz, Founder of Project MALES and chair of the Department of Educational Leadership and Policy at the University of Texas-Austin, Julian Alvarez III, Texas Workforce Commissioner Representing Labor, and Dr. Bennie Lambert, vice president of student success at Lone Star College-CyFair.

The summit will also consist of interactive breakout sessions on leadership, interviewing skills, classroom etiquette, how to manage conflict, wellness, motivation, social responsibility, and the role of Latino males in today’s society.

The event is free and open to college and high school students, teachers and counselors. Lunch will be provided to attendees.

The Male Student Leadership Summit will take place at the Texas Southmost College, SERT-B Lecture Hall, 80 Fort Brown, Brownsville, Texas.
