MCALLEN – A Rio Grande Valley family was detained at Houston International Airport over the weekend after President Trump’s executive order went into effect.

McAllen Mayor Jim Darling said he got a call notifying him of the anxiety and uncertainty the family faced.

“Ultimately, it took a couple hours. So, it was pretty scary because they separated the family and all that, but everybody had the proper credential,” he said. “I think there was a lot of confusion this week, especially this weekend in the airports.”

Darling said he hopes other lawmakers see the positive of diverse talent in the U.S. population.
