Valley First Responders Respond to Harvey Relief Efforts
RIO GRANDE VALLEY--Emergency response crews from the Valley are helping Harvey recovery efforts.
Firefighters from Brownsville, Mission, South Padre Island, Pharr, Harlingen and McAllen left Saturday after a meeting in Pharr for a planned five day deployment to San Antonio.
"We got a call from the governor," Mission firefighter Christopher Navarrete. "The governor activated the emergency task force. This something that we've trained for. So, they call, we go."
Assistant chief Eloy Salazar said the team of valley will be accounting for state assets to be distributed to those in need. These assets include food, water and medical equipment.
