Valley Residents Still Dealing with High Water
WESLACO – State leaders visited the Rio Grande Valley to assess damages left behind by recent severe storms.
A Mercedes woman says they were left to dry out what remained of her childhood home. She says she’s aware they’re not the only family still in a flood zone.
On Tuesday, the governor signed a request for a federal disaster declaration for Cameron and Hidalgo counties.
“There’s still 10 colonias that remain either underwater or surrounded by water who need urgent and immediate help,” he pointed out.
A local official says a lack of drainage systems may have aggravated the problem.
