WESLACO – A Hidalgo County woman said she is still dealing with damage on her trailer following a storm last year.

Weslaco resident Socorro Torres-Martinez said she was not only frightened by the storm, but had a difficult task in trying to get the damage repaired.

"The roof came off. Everything was getting wet, the clothes, the furniture, everything," she told CHANNEL 5 NEWS.

Torres-Martinez said she called her homeowner's insurance agency and landlord for help.

"The agency didn't want to help since the trailer was getting wet and I'm just paying it. So the landlord's office had to come and try to fix it so it wouldn't rot," she explained.

She said her home still has water damage to the walls and parts of the ceiling are in a closet.

"I want help to recuperate the roof, my clothes, the closet, and my furniture that was ruined," she said.

CHANNEL FIVE NEWS did some digging and found what agency could help Torres-Martinez. We learned the Lower Rio Grande Valley Area Agency on Aging is where she could start.

AAA Director Jose Gonzalez said he will point her in the right direction after assessing situation.

"We have our staff that will take the inquiry, determine what are the needs the individual is calling for, do some referrals regarding the needs of the person," he said.

Gonzalez added the agency will work to assure the work is done on the home.

"There's a follow up. They'll call and follow up and see if the individual made the call after all. And if they did, what was the result?" he explained.

Gonzalez said if the results are not positive right away for Torres-Martinez, his agency will continue looking for referrals to help her fix the storm damage.
