WESLACO – Almost 200 Rio Grande Valley Border Patrol employees have been furloughed during the partial government shutdown.

This Friday will be the first paycheck they miss if a deal isn't made.

Border Patrol Chief Raul Ortiz says 70 Border Patrol agents arrived from the northern border.

“We do have some individuals that are able to work in some areas that they are not used to working in. We still have a tremendous amount of work out there,” says Ortiz.

The chief urges border security hasn't changed despite the decrease in funding.
