UPDATE (10:30 AM): The Texas State Operations Center discontinued the Amber Alert for 10-year-old Angel Jesus Jimenez De La Cruz as of 10:15 a.m.

Further details in the case have not been released but Rio Hondo ISD told CHANNEL 5 NEWS the child is safe in the custody of his mother.

EXTRA:

Despite being located on an international border and the child listed as "grave" or "immediate" danger by the SOC, you may have noticed you did not receive an Amber Alert notification on your cellphone.

The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children is in charge of activating these alerts, according to the Department of Public Safety.

NCMEC told CHANNEL  5 NEWS each state makes their own criteria for when those alerts get sent to your phone. The state agency's website shows in Texas, "capable devices will receive a text-like message if unique vehicle identifiers (such as license plates, etc) are available."

In this case, the license plate number was stated as "unknown" on the issued alert.

The Amber Alert for the 10-year-old was put out late Thursday evening, hours after the incident. A regional alert that covers the Rio Hondo area was not sent out.

We're working to figure out why it wasn't issued.
