Arrest Made in Connection to Body Found

(UPDATE 5/24): Raymondville police chief said they arrested one man in connection to their investigation after a woman’s body was found in a canal near Edcouch.

Authorities were called to FM 1015 and Nittler Road around 10 a.m.

According to Raymondville Police Chief Uvaldo Zamora, a pathologist is examining the remains. He said he expects the results by the end of the day.

Authorities haven’t released the identity of the body.

A press conference will be held later today.

EDCOUCH – Hidalgo County Sheriff’s deputies said the body of a female was found near Delta Lake.

Deputies were called out to a scene at a canal out to FM 1015 and Nittler Road around 10 a.m. Tuesday. 

Spokesperson J.P. Rodriguez told CHANNEL 5 NEWS the body was pulled out shortly after the deputies' arrival. 

The Monte Alto Fire Department, the Edcouch Volunteer Fire Department and the Texas Rangers were among the agencies responding to the discovery. 

Raymondville police will be taking over the investigation.

CHANNEL 5 NEWS spoke to a worker with the Delta Lake Irrigation District. The district owns the canal and the land surrounding it.

The worker said no one besides workers is allowed to access the property. We’re told workers come out almost daily to check on the canal.

They were out in the area early in the morning.

The identity of the body remains unknown at this time. The Raymondville police chief said the body was sent for an autopsy.
