CBP to Increase Inspections on Imported Tomatoes and Peppers

WESLACO – Customs and Border Protection announced an increase of inspections on some imported produce entering at all U.S. ports of entry.
Beginning Friday, there will be restrictions on imports of tomato and pepper seed lots and transplants from all countries where the virus exists.
Infected produce from Mexico was found in Florida.
The virus itself is not harmful when consumed, but it kills the plant.
CBP chief agriculture specialist Thomas Garcia added starting Friday you will no longer be able to bring tomatoes or peppers across the border.
Commercial imports will still be allowed with proper documentation stating it's clean of the virus from Mexico
