Church-Turned-Respite Center Helping Immigrants

BROWNSVILLE – A church in Brownsville is opening its doors to help immigrants by providing them with a place to eat and sleep.

Pastor Carlos Navarro of the West Brownsville Baptist Church says he relates since he himself fled to the U.S. when he was 17 years old.

"Majority of presidents and politicians end up in jail for acts of corruption, natural disasters. We've been victims of violence and dictatorships,” he says.

As of Friday, 343 people have come through his church turned respite center.

KRGV’s Daisy Martinez spoke with a Honduran mother who is seeking asylum after being robbed and assaulted along the way.
