DPS: Deceptive Websites Could Lead to Identity Theft

Related Story

WESLACO – The Department of Public Safety is issuing a warning over fraudulent government websites.

The agency says these sites make you think you’re buying a driver’s license, identification cards and driving records.

The sites charge visitors for these services but they can’t deliver official documents for the state of Texas.

DPS says those who fall victim lose their money and may end up giving personal information that could be used for identity theft.

Anyone looking to make a transaction with DPS can visit their two official sites, www.texas.gov or www.dps.texas.gov.

The current fees are as follows:

Renewal of driver license: $25

Renewal of ID: $16

For a change of address on driver’s license or ID: $11

DPS says if the cost of service is too high, the webpage may be fraudulent.
