Feds: There's a Lack of Water Sensors to Control Flooding in RGV

WESLACO - The U.S. Geological Service has only one water quality sensor.

The government says they need more sensors to gather more information about the flow of water.

The only sensor in the Rio Grande Valley is next to the Rio Hondo Bridge; it does not measure the flow of water.

CHANNEL 5 NEWS reached out to the U.S. Geological Survey branch chief of South Texas program Doug Schnoebelen.

Schnoebelen tells us their program is currently installing new gauges in other major cities; no work has been done in the Valley.
