Former Valley Police Chief Found Guilty

MCALLEN – A former La Joya police chief has been found guilty.
Jurors found former police chief Geovani Hernandez guilty Thursday on two counts for aiding and abetting to distribute over five kilograms of a controlled substance.
Hernandez was accused of intentionally scouting and assisting in drug trafficking.
The defense and prosecutors stated their closing arguments to the court, reminding the jury how Hernandez allegedly built relationships with felons, alleged cartel members and informants.
The witnesses included Homeland Security agents, alleged Gulf Cartel members, and informants.
On the defense side, witnesses included Hernandez's son and previous partner.
The jury took three hours to make a decision on the case and came back with a guilty verdict.
