Gov't Shutdown Increasing Demand at Local Food Pantry

SAN BENITO – The government shutdown is generating more traffic at the San Benito Food Pantry.
With each passing day of the government shutdown, the pantry expects more people to feed.
KRGV’s John Paul Barajas spoke with a federal employee who is working without pay.
He says he’s usually able to donate and give to charities, but now he is in need of the pantry’s help.
"I’m the sole provider for my family so I’m trying to see how I’m going to get food, of course, gas money, and all that," he says.
The San Benito Food Pantry president, Forest Walker, says without help from the community, people might have walked away empty handed.
He says the pantry will continue trying to feed those who need help.
