SAN ISIDRO – Habitat for Humanity of the Rio Grande Valley is venturing out to Starr County for the first time.

The nonprofit organization is planning to renovate an elderly man’s home in San Isidro.

Its part of a program they call “Aging in Place.”

Development director, Febe Zepeda, said Habitat runs mostly on donations and grants. The funding is usually location specific. Certain grants and donations can only be used in a certain county or city. That’s why they haven’t worked in Starr County before.

The San Isidro Knights of Columbus group is doing the fundraising for supplies for the trip and Habitat is providing the labor and volunteers.

“Hopefully people will see the things that we do and more donors will come from Starr County so we can continue to work in Starr County,” Zepeda said.

Zepeda added right now they have funding that can only be used in Willacy County, McAlln city limits and in Harlingen
