LA JOYA – A first of its kind program is now implemented at a middle school at La Joya Independent School District. An on-campus coffee shop run by some very special students.
At Domingo Trevino Middle School they're brewing more than just coffee, they're brewing hope.
Just like many children, Gonzalo Gonzalez is all smiles when his favorite characters appear on his screen, but unlike most, too much stimulation can be a problem since he is a child with autism.
"I worry that he might not be able to be as independent as we would like our children to be," says Maggie Gonzalez, Gonzalo's mother.
However, those worries have become significantly less, not by divine intervention, but by selling cups of coffee to the faculty.
