With the hot temperatures, going for a dip might be tempting, but law enforcement says it can also be deadly.
Swimming in canals is part of some residents’ pastime, but throughout the years many have learned to stay on the sidelines.
A deputy fire chief says it might seem calm on the surface, but that isn’t the case under water.
The pressure of the current can pull people under. Surface canals can transition into underground canals.
“When that happens, we have no way to get you out. Short of pumping it dry and recovering,” said Douglas Williams, Mission deputy fire chief.
