Local Business Worried about Tariff Increase on Chinese Goods

MCALLEN – The raised tariffs on trade between the U.S. and China continue.

Over the weekend, President Donald Trump put a 15% increase on more Chinese goods.

The more businesses have to pay to get merchandise on their shelves the more customers will have to pay to take it home.

Some are worried consumers aren't going to be willing to do that.

"We buy the merchandise from China. From china they send it to California and from California they send it to us," says Carlos Reyes of Lovely Shoes and More in McAllen.

Reyes and his bosses are well aware of the increased tariffs over the weekend.

The tariffs are said to hit things such as food, apparel, electronics and footwear first.

Reyes tell us people come to the store for their low prices and specials.

If they can't offer that it'll be bad for business.

He fears they won't be the only ones who fall on hard times.
